SB17-088 – Participating Provider Network Selection Criteria

Sponsors: Senator Williams, Senator Holbert, Representative Van Winkle, Representative Hooton

The bill would require a health insurer to develop, use, and disclose to health care providers the standards the carrier uses for selecting providers for its network, tiering providers within the network, and placing participating providers in a narrow provider network. Currently, health insurers can remove a health care provider from their networks at-will and without notification. This bill will benefit physicians and patients by increasing the transparency in healthcare provider selection for a network. The bill was signed into law by Governor Hickenlooper on April 18.
