In some districts in Colorado, public charter schools do not receive the same funding as traditional public schools from Mill Levy Override dollars. Beginning in the 2019-2020 budget year, this bill will require school districts to distribute funds it receives from local property tax mill levies equally, on a per-student basis, to all public schools within the district that offer the program for which the levy is designated. The bill also requires more transparency from charter schools; for any waivers of state statute that a charter school has received, the school must post for free and public access a plan to meet the intent of the statute. The bill was passed with bipartisan support with a vote of 77-23 including both chambers and will be signed by the governor.
